Symbols crowd the margins, angular and purposeful, their meanings lost to her. Maps sprawl across double pages in various states of completion, some detailed enough to navigate by, others dissolving into wild, frantic sketching. References to Vael Tareth appear again and again, sometimes circled, sometimes underlined so fiercely the nib has torn through the paper. And woven through it all like a refrain: the Lantern Archive. Over and over. The words repeated until they blur into obsession. Mira reads by candlelight in that cold place, piecing together fragments of a man's descent into singular, desperate purpose. What he sought, she cannot yet say. But the notebook trembles in her hands like a living thing, and she understands finally that Edran did not simply vanish. He walked toward something, deliberately, into darkness she has only begun to fathom.
